How Long Should You Work Out Each Day?

Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. Granted, you love working out at the gym. You take great pride in each curve and bicep as they form. Pushing your body’s limits is a challenge that thrills you ceaselessly. But are you doing too much? You might ask this; how much is exactly too much?

Let your body be the judge. I know, sometimes the human goes into overdrive, shutting down vitals in order to protect the organs under its care. Still, the messages that your body sends you are still your best indicator of health. There are warning signs that you need to heed when the body is worked out too much.

Overtraining puts you at high risk for injuries such as tendinitis and stress fractures. It can also temporarily suppress the immune system, and you know what happens then. You fall sick, and often. Too much work and you are also irritable, anxious, depressed and listless.

Initially, you might not be able to distinguish between “good” soreness and real, chronic fatigue, sore muscles and swollen tendons that result from overtraining. To avoid physical and mental burnout, lower your stress levels by doing meditation and talking to close friends and family. Change your exercise routine to keep your muscles guessing. Don’t overuse the same group of muscles day in and day out. If you are a swimmer, throw away the swimming trunks and grab trainers instead.

Overindulgence brings even the great down. It will get you too if you don’t close your earns to the siren song of the gym when your body is pleading for a day off. Experts say 90 minutes of workout a day, comprising of cardio and strength-training is ideal. Listen to your body. Your body will be grateful, I promise!
